We are sad to announce that, due to COVID-19, Sawyerville Summer Camp and Summer Learning are canceled for 2020. The health and safety of our campers, students, and staff is our primary concern, and we do not believe it will be safe to gather as we normally do. We will miss being with each of and every one of you.
But! We have a plan to keep us connected...
All 450 of our campers and students will receive camp-in-a-box! These boxes will be packed with food, fun, and encouragement. We'll include non-perishable groceries; activities like books, arts and crafts supplies, and sports equipment; and words of prayer and hope from prayer partners across the diocese. Camp-in-a-box will support our campers in mind, body, and soul! Boxes will be delivered to campers and students in early July.
Who will receive a box? All campers and students registered in Summer 2019 plus any additional campers and students who have already registered for Summer 2020. We estimate this total number to be about 450.
How will the boxes be packed? We'll need volunteers in Greensboro and Birmingham to help pack boxes. Volunteers will follow health and safety guidelines.
We Need Your Help!
Sponsor a box with a gift of $100. You can give online or mail a check payable to Sawyerville to 521 20th Street North, Birmingham, AL 35203.
We are currently creating an Amazon wish list of items we'd like to include in boxes. Check back here for the link in the coming days!
If your parish or small group had already volunteered to serve a meal to the staff this summer, consider donating the money you would have spent on the meal. We'll use these funds to purchase groceries for the boxes.
Volunteer to help pack or deliver boxes by emailing Crystal Jones.
Volunteer to write a letter of encouragement by emailing Linda Kennedy.
